At the doorway of one of the largest deltas of river water on the
African continent - the Ogooué Basin, Lambaréné
is a quiet little town, between an island and the river banks, that
Dr. Albert Schweitzer made world famous. You can visit the former
hospital as well as the apartment of Dr. Schweitzer now transformed
into a museum (closed on Sundays). The interest of this area is obviously
the lakes and the broad river. It’s a labyrinth of small islands
surrounded by streams of the river, which sometimes become big lakes.

In addition to the varied lush vegetation, the Ngomo Protestant
Mission is an interesting excursion. You can rent a dugout canoe
with a guide, however, knowing that no safety rules have been applied
and that there is no insurance!
