| The humpback whales
(megapteres) are among the most spectacular of the ocean mammals. They
are from 12 to 16 meters long and weigh from 25 to 35 tons. In spite
of its huge size, they are capable of jumping sometimes completely out
of the water with unimaginable grace. WCS researchers have been studying them since 1999, recording their sounds and taking samples from their skin, thereby allowing them perhaps to locate the same whales at another point of the planet, and being able to see the trail of their migrations. The WCS researchers are co-operating with Operation Loango in Iguéla, and on board a big zodiac hydro-jet which is easy to direct and safe, they allow visitors to take advantage of their experience. |
